Lucy D: I received a call from (his former wife) Amanda that Ken Matthews had passed on to be with the Lord at M. D. Anderson Hospital during the night of Aug 21. His children Adrian, Lauren, Blake and Greg were present, surrounding him with their love and prayers.

Funeral Service
11:00 am Saturday August 25 at West University Baptist Church, 6218 Auden St, Houston, Texas 77005, with viewing from 10:00-10:45. Interment to follow at South Park Cemetery, 1310 N. Main Street, Pearland, TX 77581

The family will receive friends from 5:30-8:30 pm Friday August 24 at South Park Funeral Home, 1310 N. Main, Pearland, TX 77581.

Obituary
William “Kenneth” Matthews was born on 25 Mar 1938 in Leavenworth, KS and died on 21 Aug 2012 in Houston, Texas. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, William Tarpley Matthews and Mattie Velta Pittman, brother, David Jerome Matthews, and brother-in-law, Curtis Eaton.

Ken was a member of West University Baptist Church where he was member of the choir. He was a former Boy Scout Leader, and enjoyed camping, canoeing, hiking, and being with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Marian Knapp Matthews; his children, Adriane Heffelfinger Evans (Monte), Lauren Lusk (Frank), W. Blake Matthews, all of Houston, and Greg K. Matthews of San Marcos, TX; grandchildren, Madeline, Matthew, and Andrew Heffelfinger, Dylan and Brenden Lusk, all of Houston; and former wife Amanda Cook Gilbert of Lufkin; sister, Margie Eaton of Gulfport, MS; nieces, Lesa Dixon Styles, Lisa Matthews, Kim Matthews Stickley, Joni Matthews Davies, Debbie Easton, Diane Eaton Butterfield, and other great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his step-children Bruce E. Oliver (Caroline) of Austin and Melanie Oliver Darden (Brent) of Dallas; step-grandchildren, Amy and Benjamin Oliver, and Chase and Cody Darden.

Ken attended Arkansas Tech University, and graduated from University of Texas, Austin in 1962. He retired from Exxon after 30 years of employment, and continued to work for other computer companies until 2011.
